Klerksdorp Golf Club
Klerksdorp Golf Club is the oldest golf club in the Old Transvaal and together with Kimberly Golf Club the 5th oldest Golf Club in South Africa established in 1889.
The history of the Klerksdorp Golf Club started with influential men who were committed to the development of the golf club and the game. Endless battles since 1889 were fought against nature’s elements. Floods ,drought, and a lack of water were the main concerns. Through all the hardships over the years the club still managed to grow from a 9 hole course with greens made of *”blougrond” to a progressive challenging and well manicured 18 hole golf course with a healthy membership.
Currently Klerksdorp Golf club offers a modern design and course layout for the serious golfer. Fully equipped clubhouse with bar, restaurant, conference and function facilities are available under supervision of caretakers Bona Steyn and her staff. This facility provides secure parking and a very relaxed atmosphere where golfers and their spouses can enjoy themselves.
A well stocked Proshop is also available under the management of JG Claasen.
The first nine crosses the park area and has a few deceiving holes. The fourth is a par 4 stroke 3 which requires a well placed drive, brilliant second and two great puts for par. The fifth hole has the spruit all-long the fairway so keep right and don’t miss the green left. After the first nine relax at our halfway house or under the lapa to enjoy a quick snack or meal served by our friendly and well trained staff.
The second nine start off with a par 5 which lures the long hitters to go on for two – the green is well banked… so go for it! The next two par threes is in direct contrast – the 11th hole measures 222 meter for the men and 210 for women while the 12th hole is only 110 and 108 meters! The next par 4 is stroke 2, again flanked by the Schoonspruit on the right and around the green. You will have to cross the spruit two times to hit the green on the 16th par 3 – GOOD LUCK!
To end a great round of golf, the 18th is a reachable par 5 with the green in full view of the clubhouse so end in style with a birdie or even an eagle!
