Oppenheimer Park Golf Club
Designed ByRobert Grimsdell
Oppenheimer Park Golf Club, founded in 1949, is situated about 7 Km from the mining town of Welkom in the Free State, South Africa.
The Oppenheimer Park Golf Club in Welkom is a gold diggers dream, or perhaps just a dream. Based on the edge of a dam that is home to thousands of pink flamingos and on the outskirts of a dusty gold-mining community, the Oppenheimer Park Golf Club is a lush green oasis with tall trees dating back to a time long before the clubs birth in 1949.
The course was designed by the renowned golf course architect, Bob Grimsdell and is a challenge for all golfers. Water hazards are a major feature on six of the 18 holes. A large dam, adjacent to the course is inhabited by thousands of flamingos and the course has a tranquil, natural character.
The front and back nine’s open with challenging par four’s and the real key to a good scorecard is power and accuracy – easier said than done. Six of the eighteen holes skirt the edge of the dam and demand accurate shots, otherwise your ball, like so many before, will land in the drink.
The 511 m 9th hole will test most golfers and the halfway house will be a welcome respite before tackling the back nine. The 10th is a dogleg with trees that must be avoided before approaching the green which is tucked away behind more trees and protected by bunkers, bushes and shrubs. The course is known for its excruciating rough so take great care to stay on the fairways.
The Golf Club is situated in a tranquil area 7 kms south east of Welkom. We have a mens and ladies change rooms and locker rooms.

Whether you wish to entertain 10 or 130, the Club is able to provide a fully catered venue that are sure to meet your needs. Catering for breakfasts, lunches, restaurant menu, weddings, birthday parties, snack platters etc.
The course was originally designed by Bob Grimsdell and has a parkland layout with an abundance of magnificent old trees dating back to 1949 when the club was established, and some a lot longer, which line both sides of the fairways. Water is found on 6 of the 18 holes.
