Chipping – better results with a better set-up

Sometimes a very simple item to correct is the set-up. Without getting overly technical on someones technique, you can get them to strike the ball more solid with a better set-up. In the first video, you probably noticed the set-up too open and the face of the club too open. We can utilize the loft of a Sand Wedge or Lob Wedge by being more precise with the set-up. The stance will be narrow and slightly open, but not too open. The club face will remain more square. If the club face is slightly open, that’s okay, but don’t over do it, unless you are trying to hit some sort of a specialty shot. To change the trajectory of the ball flight, play the ball back, center or forward. Obviously, if the ball is back, you’ll get a lower chip shot. If the ball is played in the middle of the stance, you’ll get a mid trajectory. If the ball is more forward, you’ll get a more lofted chip shot. Try to perform the same back swing and notice the difference in the trajectory. You may have to experiment a little bit on your own to get the feel.
